THINGS YOU WILL NEED TO CONSIDER

To find the right mobility product for you, follow these steps. This will help you pinpoint what will suit your needs best.

MobilizeMe
WHERE WILL YOU BE TAKING YOUR SCOOTER/WHEELCHAIR?

You’ll need to think about where you live and where you’ll be going. Are paths going to be paved, rough or uneven? Will there be dirt roads or cobble stones? Are there hills? If yes, does the scooter have enough power to get up them?

YOUR WEIGHT AND HEIGHT

Ensure to choose a product that suits your weight. If you weigh 160kg, then something like a 180 or 200kg capacity scooter is best for you. You’ll need to consider any weight you’ll be taking with you on trips as well, such as your shopping. For height, if you have longer legs, consider leg room. Scooters with an open front design like the Luggies or Supa Scoota’s, generally offer more legroom.

YOUR CAPABILITIES

All of our scooters and wheelchairs have different lifting weights to them. Generally, a scooter that comes apart into pieces will be lighter than one that does not. However, these pull apart products generally take more time and thought to put back together than those that fold up into one piece.

YOUR BUDGET

Keep in mind that portable and folding electric wheelchairs are generally lower in cost than medium to large sized products that don’t fold up. The most important thing here is to first find something that suits your needs. There’s nothing worse than saving $1,000 on a product that doesn’t match your requirements, only to end up with something you never want to use because it’s too heavy or it can’t go where you need it to.

PICK YOUR SCOOTER

In step 5 comes the fun part, you get to pick out your scooter! After taking all the information in the above steps into consideration, you are now informed to choose an ideal scooter that is specifically suited to you.

WHERE WILL YOU USE YOUR SCOOTER OR ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR?

It’s important to first take into consideration what you’ll be using your mobility scooter or wheelchair for and where you’ll be taking it. If you’re looking for something for in home use, then an electric wheelchair is your best bet due to the tight turning circle and the fact that it takes up less space in your home. For dirt roads, grass and international trips where you may be driving over cobblestones, you’ll need to consider whether you want something with suspension, a comfortable seat or larger air-filled tires with deeper tread. The products listed below are the ones that best suit their recommended environment without unnecessary features, which lead to increased costs. For example you can still use Luggie Elite Delux on a Cruise Ship, however the added stability of the wide wheels and suspension will not add any benefits, compared to using a Luggie Elite. Read the guide below to help narrow down your selection.

INTERNATIONAL TRIPS

If you’ll be driving on rough surfaces, you’ll want to think about suspension and bigger, air filled tires for a smoother ride. A nice comfy seat will be important as well, as you may be sitting in your scooter for longer periods.

CRUISESHIPS AND INDOOR USE

You won’t need suspension and deep tread here. Cruise ships are flat, and rooms are small. You’ll want to consider something that takes up little space and folds up easily.

IN HOME USE

A mobility product’s turning circle is important here along with its size. Most scooters are far too big to use in your home. Electric wheelchairs are highly recommended. They also have tighter turning circles.
